Simulations of affirmative actions
Affirmative actions reserve seats for groups that have been excluded from politics. When someone takes that seat without belonging to the group, the community loses representation. Here we document it with articles anyone can verify.

What you can do

Register a politician BetaCity councils, mayor’s offices, ministries and more: their photo, their office and where their affirmative action registration is. You need an account to follow up.
Documented cases
There are no documented cases yet. A case appears here when it gathers 3 articles from different, well-rated outlets, or when the team confirms it. If you know of one, report it with an article.
How it is accepted
- 1You send an articleThe link to a press article or an official source that talks about the possible sham.
- 2The Analyzer reads itIt checks that it names the person, that it talks about their affirmative action and how well rated the outlet is.
- 33 articles = acceptedWith 3 articles from different outlets, among those rated best by the Media Analyzer, we flag it as an affirmative action sham.
- Best-rated outlets: those that the Media Observatory classifies as “Ally outlet” or “Respectful”. An official source (INE, electoral institute, court, government) also counts.
- Different outlets: the same article copied on several sites counts once. Social media posts do not count for this rule.
- We never use stereotypes (marital status, appearance or gender expression) as evidence. We do not publish personal data either.
- The team reviews: what the Analyzer accepts can be corrected if there is an error, and whoever is flagged can request a review from Contact.
A documented sham is an alert backed by the press, not a court ruling: several challenged people were upheld by the courts. In the section LGBTTTIQANB+ representation we also flag signs of a possible sham using what the observatory measures.
